DENVER - The Daniels & Fishers Tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Mile High City.
On the eve of its 100th birthday, what's inside it still remains a mystery to many, but that is about to change.
"I really wanted to take a space that has been so mysterious and closed for so many years and open it up and share that with the city," Holly Kylberg, philanthropist and business woman, said.
The top five floors of the tower have undergone a dramatic makeover and are now available to rent for corporate parties, charity events and weddings.
"It's a little bit intimidating at times" Kylberg added. "It does have such a rich history. I feel an obligation to preserve and protect that history and pass it on to the next generation."
For years, the tower, which features a giant clock, was the highest building west of the Mississippi. The massive Daniels and Fisher department store that occupied it was eventually demolished and the future of the tower itself was in limbo for years. A rescue and restore movement in the late 1980s saved it.
Now occupied by businesses, the new event center will be the first recent chance for the average person to enjoy the breathtaking view.
"It's fun to take people through floor by floor and see the element of surprise on their faces," Kylberg said.
The only area off limits is the two-story spiral staircase which leads to the bell tower.
Kylberg has owned the top five stories of the tower since 2001 but felt now the time was right to revamp it and make it available to the public.
