Gart Properties on Wednesday will start its $25 million renovation of the Denver Pavilions shopping center downtown. The company is moving forward with its plans for the center, which it acquired with ING Clarion in July for $94.5 million, despite a dismal economy that's seeing little new investment.
"We had planned to make these investments, and if we don't make these investments, I think we're destined for the same course we've been on," said Mark Sidell, the company's president.
The renovations include new, energy-efficient escalators accessed directly from the 16th Street Mall; LED signs along 16th Street; elevator upgrades; and a new paint scheme, lighting, landscaping and signage. Improvements to the Pavilions' Glenarm Street presence will include valet service, new lighting and a pedestrian crosswalk across Glen arm.
The renovation, scheduled for completion by October, was designed by Semple Brown Design, CommArts and Buchanan Yonu shewski Group.
